Celebrate the holidays at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's free Family Day
EUGENE -- (Nov. 20, 2007) -- Start off the holiday season with activities and performances for the entire family at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's free Family Day and Holiday Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the University of Oregon.
Children and parents can make one-of-a-kind wrapping paper inspired by contemporary Northwest artists, create unique ornaments and cards and decorate festive holiday cookies. The supplies are provided and each artist can take their creations home.
A musical performance by the Downing Street Singers from Churchill High School will fill the museum with the sounds of the season, and Ballet Fantastique will entertain with a special holiday dance performance. The day also includes a special appearance by the University of Oregon Duck from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Family-focused, guided tours of the museum's collections and the current exhibit, NewArt Northwest will be available. And everyone can explore the Interactive Discovery Gallery, where kids and parents can enjoy a family centered learning experience.
Precious Cargo: The Museum Store will feature 20 percent off unique children's toys and puzzles, soaps and stationary, accessories and jewelry through Dec. 9, 2007.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will be collecting for Food for Lane County and visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item with them.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and high school students. Free admission is given to ages 13 and under, JSMA members, college students with ID, and university faculty, staff and students.
