First annual K-12 Art Show debuts at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE -- (Nov. 29, 2007) -- New Art Northwest -- Kids, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's first annual K-12 exhibition, is on display in the Cheryl Ramberg Ford Lecture Hall every weekend now through Jan. 6. Admission to the exhibit is free.
The exhibit will have a free, public reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 2, at the museum, 1430 Johnson Lane. The exhibit complements NewArt Northwest, the museum's fall exhibition of contemporary art by artists residing in Oregon and Washington.
The NewArt Northwest -- Kids exhibition includes 67 pieces chosen from more 240 entries submitted by students in Eugene/Springfield, Cottage Grove, Creswell, Elmira, Pleasant Hill, Veneta, Walterville and Walton. The works selected for the show were chosen by a jury of museum staff.
"We are delighted to host the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's first annual K-12 student art show," said Lisa Abia-Smith, the museum's director of education. "This exhibition demonstrates one of the many facets of the integrated arts education programs promoted by the museum."
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art plays an integral role in supporting K-12 arts education throughout the region through its school tour program, professional development opportunities for in-service and pre-service teachers and classroom curriculum resources.
"The museum is committed to creating programs such as this exhibition that foster creativity, art exploration, and self-expression," said Abia-Smith.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and high school students. Free admission is given to ages 13 and under, JSMA members, college students with ID, and university faculty, staff and students.
