Sample of photographs to be auctioned now on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Nov. 1, 2007) -- Photographs generously donated by 40 prominent photographers will be auctioned on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The free public event begins with a 1 p.m. viewing, followed by the 2 p.m. auction of prints. The proceeds will support the art museum's Photography at Oregon program.

A portion of the soon-to-be-auctioned photographs are currently on display in on the main floor of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. This year’s event features the work of George Tice, Peter Goin, Martha Casanave, Olivia Parker, Brian Lanker, Dan Powell, Frank Miller, Christopher Burkett and Mark Freemesser.

This auction celebrates the 13th year that Photography at Oregon has presented a continuous series of photography exhibits and public programs in the museum. Started by former UO photography teacher Bernie Freemesser, the gallery featured in its early years the artistic works of many of Freemesser’s noted colleagues, including Brett Weston, Wynn Bullock, and Oliver Gagliani.

Photographs can also be previewed at an online catalog accessible at http://jsma.uoregon.edu. Absentee bids can be placed on the works by calling Miriam Jordan at the Museum, 541-346-0973.

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is located at 1430 Johnson Lane on the University of Oregon campus. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
