EUGENE, Ore. -- (Nov. 28, 2007) -- Youngsters enrolled in the University of Oregon's Community Music Institute (CMI) will perform at the Eugene Barnes & Noble Booksellers to raise funds for the program. Members of the Suzuki Strings and Chamber Players, a university-based music instruction program for young string players, will be featured.

The CMI will play two concerts, the first from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, and and the second from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the bookstore, 1163 Valley River Dr.

The CMI, an outreach program of the UO School of Music and Dance, offers comprehensive music instruction to children. More than 100 students in the Eugene area participate in weekly individual lessons, group classes and chamber ensemble rehearsals.

The performances will feature young string players ranging in age from preschoolers to high schoolers. During the promotion Barnes & Noble will donate a portion of their profits to CMI’s financial aid fund. Vouchers for the promotion are available through Community Music Institute members or on-line, http://music.uoregon.edu/AcademicStudies/Departments/cmi.html.
