Deconstruction starts on former bakery, making way for arena

EUGENE -- (April 14, 2008) -- Pending final approval from the city of Eugene, deconstruction of the former Williams Bakery is slated to begin on Tuesday, April 15, to make way for a new basketball arena.

Plans call for 95 percent (by weight) of the former bakery, near Franklin Boulevard and Agate Street, to be reused in some fashion, keeping it out of landfills.

Deconstruction work will stop June 2, the week before final exams, and will not resume until after the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, which conclude July 6.
