University of Oregon music faculty members to be featured during Portland Art Walk
Five faculty members from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance will present a free piano concert on May 1.
PORTLAND, Ore. -- (April 15, 2008) -- Five faculty artists from the University of Oregon will perform in Portland on Thursday, May 1, as part of the city's First Thursday Art Walk.
The 7 p.m. event will take place at the Sherman Clay recital showroom, Sherman Clay--Moe's Pianos, 131 N.W. 13th Ave. Admission is free, and Sherman Clay will provide refreshments during intermission.
The program will feature pianist Alexandre Dossin performing Mozart's "Piano Sonata in C Major," "Prokofiev's "Toccata, Op.11" and three selections by Chopin. Dossin's recent CD, "Franz Liszt: Verdi Concert Paraphrases and Transcriptions," has received critical acclaim from the classical music press.
Kathryn Lucktenberg, Leslie Straka and Steven Pologe, members of the music school's string faculty, will perform Beethoven's "String Trio in C Minor" and will be joined by pianist David Riley for Brahms' "Piano Quartet in G Minor."
Brad Foley, dean of the UO School of Music and Dance, said this is a wonderful opportunity for music lovers in the Portland metro-area to sample the range and quality of the school's performing faculty.
"Many of our musicians have international performances to their credit," said Foley. "They bring a level of professional expertise to their teaching that is unmatched in the state. Showcasing the talent of some of these outstanding musicians is a perfect fit for Sherman Clay."
The university recently partnered with Sherman Clay to acquire two Concert D grand pianos from the Steinway & Sons' factory in Hamburg, Germany.
