EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 22, 2008) -- The University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History will host an artists' reception for "If the Shoe Fits – Kids Contemplate Shoes" featuring original artwork and stories by two fourth-grade classes at Clear Lake Elementary School in Eugene.

The artists' reception will be 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, at the museum, 1680 E. 15th Ave. Visitors are invited to enjoy cake and punch while talking with and celebrating the young artists whose work is displayed. Museum of Natural and Cultural History kids event

Twenty-eight talented youngsters explored the significance of footwear through drawing and writing about shoes. From precious family heirlooms to well-worn sneakers to shoes of the future that defy gravity, the pieces in this exhibit reveal a fresh and creative perspective on a piece of everyday life and complement the current exhibit, "Walk a Mile In These Shoes – The Stories They Tell."

"My mom wears these shoes and dances in them," wrote Cynthia Rivera about a pair of strapless sandals with rhinestones. "She shines in these shoes when she walks."

Christian Douglass-Devine wrote about the importance of his tennis shoes: "These shoes got me first place and second place medals. I hope these shoes bring me to victory at the next track meet."

The exhibit continues through Nov. 2.

Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty and staff and students are admitted free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
