Free admission offered at UO museums on home football weekends
The UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invite all inside
EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 29, 2008) -- Whether out-of-town visitors and local residents are looking for an alternative to sports or a chance to extend the weekend's festivities before or after the big game, the UO museums are opening up the doors during the fall's busiest weekends in the Eugene area.
The UO's Museum of Natural and Cultural History and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will offer free admission all weekend each time the Oregon Ducks football team plays at home.
The Museum of Natural and Cultural History, located at 1680 East 15th Ave., offers visitors of all ages the opportunity to learn about the history of Oregon and cultures around the world. In addition to the permanent exhibit, "Oregon - Where Past is Present," visitors can enjoy "Walk a Mile In These Shoes – The Stories They Tell" and "If the Shoe Fits – Kids Contemplate Shoes." A science room offers children hands-on activities and Past and Presents, the museum store, features the work of local artists.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located at 1430 Johnson Lane, features galleries focused on art from different corners of the globe, including Europe, China, Japan and Korea. On display through September 7 are "Edward Burtynsky: The China Series" and "The Thinking Body." Fall exhibits include "Designed by Architects: Metalwork from the Margo Grant Walsh Collection," opening Sept. 23, and "Cuba Avant-Garde: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Farber Collection," opening Oct. 4. Visitors can also visit Precious Cargo: The Museum Store and the Marché Museum Café.
Free admission is offered on the following weekends: Aug. 30-31, Sept. 6-7, Sept. 20-21, Oct. 11-12, Nov. 8-9 and Nov. 15-16.
