More than 900 students eligible to graduate at UO summer commencement
EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 12, 2008) -- More than 900 degree candidates are eligible to participate in the University of Oregon's 2008 summer commencement exercises at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16.
Michael Bullis, dean of the University of Oregon College of Education, will speak to the graduates during the outdoor ceremony on the Memorial Quadrangle on the west edge of the University of Oregon campus. Tickets are not needed for the event.
Bullis has studied the career experiences and successes of high-risk adolescents and young adults for more than 20 years. His address, "Making Your Way in the World Each Day -- Keys to Success from an Unlikely Source," will summarize the steps all people should follow to be successful in life.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will move to McArthur Court, 1601 University St., and degree candidates will assemble on the covered tennis courts behind the Student Recreation Center.
Summer term's 968 degree candidates will receive 1,100 degrees and certificates. The university will award 685 bachelor's degrees, 126 certificates, 234 master's degrees, 54 doctoral degrees and one law degree.
