Last chance to see ‘Walk a Mile in These Shoes—The Stories They Tell’ at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History
The footwear exhibit closes on Dec. 28
EUGENE, Ore. -- (Dec. 17, 2008) –More than 22,000 shoes have walked through the exhibit, “Walk a Mile in These Shoes—The Stories They Tell,” since it opened April 11 at the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History, 1680 E. 15th Ave. The last day of the exhibit will be Sunday, Dec. 28, giving the community another chance to visit the exhibit with friends and family over the holidays.
Visitors of all ages have enjoyed the historical and cultural perspective brought to light through shoes from around the world.
Over 200 pairs of shoes are featured in the exhibit, including ancient sagebrush sandals, traditional footwear from around the world and boots worn by a member of the rock band KISS. Lockers depicting the last 100 years of footwear have been a popular feature of the exhibit, giving visitors a chance to see their own personal style and shoe choices reflected in the history of footwear.
The exhibit proved to be popular during Eugene 08 and the Olympic Trials, when more than 1,500 people visited the museum to see the shoes of track legends Steve Prefontaine, Bill Bowerman, Mary Slaney and others.
The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 28.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty and staff and students are admitted free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
