University of Oregon clinic offers relationship check-ups for valentines

Couples are invited to schedule appointments or walk in for free, private consultations

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Feb.1, 2008) -- Go ahead and skip the chocolates and roses. This Valentine’s Day couples can turn to the University of Oregon’s Center for Family Therapy for some free professional help.

In its sixth year, the service is designed to be a friendly, convenient way to help couples identify their strengths, needs and areas for growth and change. Couples with great relationships who are looking for enrichment, as well as couples who are having difficulties can participate.

The center, part of the UO College of Education’s Couples and Family Therapy Program, will provide one-hour relationship check-ups to campus and community members. The free, private consultations will be scheduled from noon to 8 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 15, in Suite 304, 720 E. 13th Ave. Couples can call 541-346-3296 to make an appointment or just walk into the center to see a counselor.

"This year we would like to extend a special invitation to the baby boomer generation, although
couples in all stages of life are welcome," said John Miller, the center’s director. "As the boomers approach retirement and enjoy more time together, they have more opportunity to enrich their relationships."

The Center for Family Therapy is an affordable counseling agency staffed with graduate interns from the College of Education’s Couples and Family Therapy program.

Jim Hutchison featured on ScienCentral piece about green nanotechnology

Face shot of Jim HutchisonSome are calling it a revolution in manufacturing technology. But, will nanotechnology be a "green" industry? It’s a question that some scientists are saying needs to be answered now, before nano-tech goes big-time. ScienCentral News has produced a video with the UO's Jim Hutchison, who is noted as one who is spinning gold -- gold and copper nanoparticles so small, billions would fit on the head of a pin.
