Clark Honors College's creative arts journal to be released June 6

Student-produced publication this year holds 'some amazing talent,' says editor-in-chief

Allison Rowe, editor-in-chief of the journal and CHC junior, says this year’s journal is filled with “some amazing talent.” “We’re hoping that the inspirational work in this journal will encourage even more students to submit creative expressions next year to keep the momentum going for producing a high quality creative arts journal every year,” she said.

The 2007-2008 issue will be released during the college's annual student association barbecue, which is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on the lawn between Chapman Hall, 990 East 14th Ave., and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane.

The idea of a student-produced creative arts journal began in the late 1970s. It was first produced as an annual journal in 1989 under the guidance and direction of Henry Alley, CHC professor emeritus. The journal has been compiled, designed and published by an all-student staff.

Submissions are accepted in fall term, evaluated and selected anonymously by a committee during winter term and then designed and published in time for graduation in June. “This year we accepted 80 to 85 percent of the submissions we received,” Rowe said. “Though the initial selection process is conducted anonymously, we do try to give as many different authors as possible a chance to publish their work and receive feedback from their peers.”

Copies of this year's version are available at no cost while supplies last at the release party. Copies of previous journals also are available to view in the Clark Honors College Library on the third floor of Chapman Hall.
