University of Oregon appoints dean for highly ranked College of Education
EUGENE, Ore. --(June 11, 2008) -- After an extensive national search, University of Oregon Senior Vice President and Provost Linda Brady announced today
that Michael Bullis has accepted a permanent appointment as dean of the University of Oregon College of Education.
Since taking over as interim dean in 2005 and accepting a two-year appointment as dean in 2006, Bullis has worked diligently to enhance the national and international reputation of the University of Oregon's College of Education, Brady said.
"We scoured the country for the best candidate and ultimately found the best fit was already right here in Eugene," Brady said. "It's a pleasure to welcome Mike into the position. I have no doubt that he will continue to serve the College of Education and the University of Oregon with great distinction."
Bullis is a nationally recognized expert on at-risk youth and vocational preparation of youth with disabilities. After earning his doctorate in special education and rehabilitation from the UO in 1983, he worked at the University of Arkansas and served on the faculty at Western Oregon University, where he ultimately became associate director of the Teaching Research Division. Bullis returned to the UO in 1994. He is the Sommerville-Knight Professor of special education.
"The stellar faculty and staff of the UO College of Education routinely stand out on a national and international scale," said Bullis. "As dean, supporting their excellence is a true privilege."
The UO College of Education has consistently been ranked as one of the top public education colleges in the nation. This spring U.S. News & World Report ranked the college fifth among education programs in the U.S. The college's faculty once again led the nation's education researchers in productivity, and the college's special education program was ranked third in the nation for the ninth consecutive year.
