Campaign Oregon: Transforming Lives, Transforming Campus

The Robert and Beverly Lewis Integrative Science Building is the latest of many new facilities made possible with private gifts to Campaign Oregon: Transforming Lives.

Other new facilities at the University of Oregon include:

Science:

  • Lewis Center for Neuroimaging: Opened in 2002 in Straub Hall, the center houses the first functional magnetic resonance imaging machine in the Northwest devoted to basic research on the human brain.
  • Lorry I. Lokey Laboratories: Built underground to shield instruments from vibration, this state-designated signature research center houses scientists and delicate high-tech equipment designed to propel Oregon to the forefront of the fast-growing nanotechnology industry.
  • Environmental chamber: A gift helped fund an environmental chamber that can replicate extremes of temperature, humidity, oxygen level, solar radiation and human exertion. The new chamber propelled UO environmental physiology studies into one of the leading programs in the country.

Education: The HEDCO Education Building and remodeled existing buildings will bring together programs currently dispersed in 21 different locations in Eugene, provide modernized spaces for teaching and learning and enhance clinical program facilities in the highly ranked UO College of Education.

Music: The MarAbel B. Frohnmayer Music Building expansion will add much-needed space for practice, teaching and performance in the School of Music and Dance. The expansion will add 29,000 square feet to the existing building, increasing its size by about 50 percent.

Theater: The renovated James F. Miller Theater Complex expands theater facilities for the first time since 1949, adding a new arena theater, replacing the costume shop, expanding the scene shop and upgrading the Robinson Theatre.
Business: The Lillis Business Complex has provided new classrooms, meeting areas, offices and labs designed around the school’s experiential learning curriculum.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art: The remodeled museum opened in 2005 at twice its former size, providing more gallery space, better facilities for education outreach programs, a café, a larger museum store, and special-event spaces.

Museum of Natural and Cultural History: In 2005, the museum unveiled the million-dollar exhibit "Oregon—Where Past is Present" funded with private gifts. In August, the museum broke ground on a new wing partly funded with private gifts.

Many Nations Longhouse: The longhouse opened in 2005, bringing together UO students and faculty members, Oregon Indian tribes and members of the community to honor and preserve tribal culture and history.

Ford Alumni Center: Scheduled for completion in 2010, the new center will welcome visitors to campus and provide a place for alumni and friends, faculty members and students to connect.

Athletics: The new Ed Moshofsky Sports Center, expansion of Autzen Stadium, an academic learning center for athletes, a new baseball park and a new basketball arena.
