Photography exhibit to open at UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History
Rock, Water, Fire, Earth, and Sky – Photographs of the Oregon West by David N Jones opens Friday, Nov. 7
EUGENE, Ore. -- (Oct. 27, 2008) -- The newest exhibit in the Pacific Northwest Artist Series, "Rock, Water, Fire, Earth, and Sky – Photographs of the Oregon West by David N Jones," opens this month at the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History. The public is invited to a free artist’s reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at the museum, 1680 E. 15th Ave.
The exhibit of 16 black and white images of landscapes from Oregon and the West represent Jones' style, which uses dramatic light to evoke the emotions, feelings and sensations experienced at the moment of exposure.
“My goal is to create images that compel the viewer to literally walk inside the image, feel the fullness, the open space, the depth of richness, detail and texture and experience a sense of connectedness, and hear the deafening silence,” says Jones.
The exhibit will be on display until Sunday, March 1.
The Pacific Northwest Artist Series features the work of local and regional artists. This series of exhibits features two-dimensional artwork that fits the museum’s mission of enhancing public knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty, staff and students are admitted free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
