Secretary of State Bill Bradbury to speak at energy law and policy symposium

"Living on a Finite Earth: Energy Law and Policy for a New Era" will take place on Oct. 10

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Sept. 30, 2008) – Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will be the keynote speaker during the "Living on a Finite Earth: Energy Law and Policy for a New Era" symposium on Friday, Oct. 10, at the University of Oregon. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UO Knight Law Center, Room 175, 1515 Agate St.

The symposium will address energy technology and innovative energy policy through panel discussions and keynote presentations. Bradbury will discuss "Energy Policy and Oregon's Future." Environmental justice implications of energy development and climate change will be presented by Luke Cole, executive director of the California-based Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment. Other panel topics include energy policies, the cost of change, transportation and renewable energy sources available in the Northwest.

The Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation (JELL) and the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Program are sponsoring the symposium. Since 1985, JELL has provided a national, unbiased forum for the discussion and presentation of new ideas and theories in environmental and natural resources law. The Environmental and Natural Resources Law Program pioneered the earliest academic curriculum in public interest environmental law and created the first public-interest environmental law clinic in the nation.
