UO offers free relationship counseling in time for Valentine's Day

The annual event provides one-hour sessions at the Center for Family Therapy

EUGENE, Ore. – (Jan. 30, 2009) – Can’t afford a Valentine's gift this year? Give a free gift that will last long past any flowers or chocolates. University of Oregon's Center for Family Therapy will provide one-hour counseling session for couples on Friday, Feb. 13.

The service, which is in its seventh year, is designed to be a friendly, convenient way to help couples identify their strengths, needs and areas for growth and change. Couples with great relationships who are looking for enrichment, as well as couples who are having difficulties, can participate. It is also open to individuals and families who are seeking support.

The center, part of the UO College of Education's Couples and Family Therapy Program, will provide one-hour relationship check-ups to campus and community members. The free, private consultations will be scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, in Suite 304, 720 E. 13th Ave. Couples can call 541-346-3296 to make an appointment or walk into the center to see a counselor.

"With these tough economic times, we’d like to extend a special invitation to those experiencing financial hardships, although everyone is welcome," said Dr. John Miller, the center's director. "We recognize the financial difficulty that many couples and families are facing these days and hope this service can offer ‘something for nothing.'"

The Center for Family Therapy is an affordable counseling agency staffed with graduate interns from the College of Education's Couples and Family Therapy Program.
