Web site to keep campus community updated on Eugene 08 doings

You can help make Eugene and the UO the best hosts ever of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Track and Field.

The eyes of the world will focus on the University of Oregon's Hayward Field this summer when 15,000 athletes, coaches, friends, family, fans and members of the media visit for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Track and Field. The Trials will be the peak of many athletes' careers as they vie for one of three coveted spots per event on the 2008 Summer Olympic team.

It is also the UO's opportunity to showcase world-class academics, research, museums, athletics and more.

To learn more about the events and impacts to the campus community, such as street closures, transportation and parking, visit this Web site, which will stay updated with news about the trials, as well as information about upcoming information sessions to be held for the campus community.

From June 27 to July 6, the event schedule calls for competition sessions to be held in the late afternoon/early evening on weekdays and the majority of the day on weekends. In addition, adjacent to Hayward Field, spectators will enjoy the free Eugene 08 Festival complete with live entertainment, interactive displays, merchandise, food vendors and expo booths. The festival will be open before, during and after the competition and accessible with or without a competition ticket.

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer for the Olympic Trials, ranging from helping with preparations before the event to assisting during the eight days of competition, and we encourage members of the UO community who are interested to visit www.eugene08.com for more information.

The stories of Bill Hayward, Bill Bowerman, Steve Prefontaine and the famous waffle-iron that started the biggest brand in sports are well told around the world. The community has earned the title of Track Town, USA now and forever. You can help make Eugene and the UO the best hosts ever of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Track and Field, an ever important goal as the community looks ahead to hosting national championships in 2009 and 2011, as well as the 2012 Olympic trials. Please stay tuned to this Web site for the latest information for the campus community.
