Look! Good economic news from ONAMI

New, lengthy independent report by SF company finds ONAMI is paying off

Jim Barlow -- blog art photoTucked deeply into a recently distributed news release by the Oregon Innovation Council (Oregon InC) and the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department are some good economic news being delivered to the state.

Based on a 101-page independent economic analysis San Francisco-based RTI International, some buds are blossoming from the first three years' efforts of the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). Three of the report conclusions are that:

  • Oregon’s $2.5 million investment in matching funds for competitively awarded grants alone has generated a six to one return, bringing in $15.2 million in federal grants since 2006.
  • Ten spin-off companies have been launched or critically enabled by ONAMI funding.
  • ONAMI has generated $77 million in cash inflows to the state that likely would not have occurred had ONAMI not been created.

Bob Doppelt and Roger Hamilton of the UO Climate Leadership Initiative went on video to talk about the recently released report featuring climate-change projections for Oregon's Rogue River Basin. Visit our VIDEO PAGE where -- in six videos -- Doppelt talks separately about planning and policy implications, and Hamilton speaks on overall impacts facing the basin, how agriculture, particularly pinot noir production, may be threatened, what may happen to the region's vegetation, and how salmon may be affected.
