UO E-clips, Dec. 23
Top story for December 23, 2008: UO's Institute of Marine Biology is part of organizations involved in annual whale-migration watching, reports the Statesman Journal
Annual whale-migration watching begins Friday (Statesman Journal): Given the weather forecast, a lot of people visiting the coast might envy the whales during the annual passing parade. The annual southward migration is taking Oregon’s largest visitors to sunny southern waters. And from Friday through New Year’s Day, about 450 trained interpretive volunteers will be on hand at 26 sites along the coast from southern Washington to Northern California to tell you all about them. It’s part of the annual “Whale Watching Spoken Here” program sponsored by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center and Marine Mammal Program, the University of Oregon*s Oregon Institute of Marine Biology and Washington State Parks, which operates Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.
