Board approves funding for Life Sciences building (Daily Journal of Commerce): A $250 million capital construction budget request for 2009-11 has been approved by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education to finance the proposed Life Sciences building on Portland’s South Waterfront. Funding for the 300,000-square-foot project will come from government bonds, private money and lottery funds. The request will go to the legislature this fall for final approval. If it passes, the building could be constructed in four or five years. Oregon Health and Science University currently owns the 20-acre brownfield site, located south of the Marquam Bridge, where the future Oregon University System/OHSU Life Sciences Collaborative would be located. The new research and education institute would house programs and research efforts from OHSU, Portland State University, the University of Oregon, Oregon State University and the Oregon Institute of Technology, as well as provide space for private research firms.
