Mel Krause, former UO baseball coach, dead of cancer at age 80, The Oregonian reports online

Mel Krause, former UO baseball coach, dead at 80 (The Oregonian): Former UO baseball coach Mel Krause died this morning. Krause, who was diagnosed with leukemia in November, left a profound mark on baseball history in this state at the high school and college level. Krause was a three-sport athlete at Commerce (now Cleveland) High School and earned varsity letters in basketball and baseball at the University of Oregon from 1948-51. He later coached the Ducks baseball team from 1971-1981 until the program was cut. … In April, Krause was honored in Eugene at an event titled, "Nine Innings with Mel Krause." The ceremony brought together many former players and colleagues and served as a tribute to Krause's life. (Oregonian Blog)
