City Council expands drinking area around Autzen Stadium (Associated Press): The Eugene City Council voted 6-2 to expand the legal drinking area around Autzen Stadium on days when the University of Oregon football team is playing. The vote provides private parking-lot operators with the same game-day exemption from Eugene's public drinking laws that the city gives to the UO for its stadium lot. Several of the lots are owned or operated by nonprofit groups, and rely on parking fees for their fundraising and charitable giving.
University enhances plans for emergency (Oregon Daily Emerald): After the Virginia Tech shootings in April, universities nationwide rushed to create special emergency plans in case of crisis. The University of Oregon, however, already had one. "Virginia Tech focused the nation's attention on emergency planning, but the UO was already prepared," said Phil Weiler, senior director for Public and Media Relations at the University.
UO law dean agrees to stay until 2011 (The Oregonian): Margie Paris has agreed to remain dean of the University of Oregon School of Law through June 2011. Paris was appointed to the position on an interim basis in January 2006 during an unsuccessful dean search, and she took the job permanently in May 2006.
